It’s been almost a month and a half plus too many eye drops to count since Rebekah’s PRK surgery. She has been feeling fine for quite a while, but her vision is still far from 20/20. Clear vision comes and goes and distance is always blurry. At Panera this afternoon she had to get out of line and walk closer to the counter to read the menu while I could read it with no problem.
We still have hope that this is all just part of a slow recovery process, but Rebekah is honestly a little worried. We have another appointment in a little over a week. We will have to wait and see what the doctors say at that time.

I haven’t really said much lately. Sorry. I’ll try to make up for it with a little audio that I borrowed stole from a friend’s blog a long time ago. Enjoy!

I am a bad blogger. I guess since I don’t really even blog regularly (yet!) I am not really a blogger at all. What makes someone a blogger anyway?
Is being called a “blogger” a matter of consistency? If I don’t blog at least once a day then I cannot call myself a blogger. Or maybe you don’t consider me a blogger unless I post on a regular schedule.
Is is a matter of quantity? As long as I put up a bunch of stuff whenever I decide to blog then I can blog however erratically I want. Or, as long as my posts are all long then that makes up for my lack of consistency (I know that one isn’t true).
Is is quality? What if I don’t say much, and I don’t say it often, but when I do post it is quality? Would that make me a blogger?
Is it just “owning” a blog? Do the posts even matter? I mean, I have a blog and I could blog whenever I want (even though I don’t).
What does make someone a blogger? Is it just a label? Is it a group that people try to belong to?
What makes someone a “Christian?” Is it just a label? Is it a consistent following of Christ? Is it about the quantity of “good” we have done? Is it just about attending a church or telling people you are a Christian? Is it doing or being?
If we have a good definition do we consistently follow it when looking at our own lives? What about when looking at others’ lives?

1) Ugly, dreary, rainy morning here in Nashville.
2) Lunch meeting. (TGIFriday’s + Web Talk = Mmmm.)
3) Afternoon drive to Florence, AL, with Shaun & Bush for The Well.
Progression.

A lot of my friends have told me to buy the Jon Foreman CDs. For those that don’t know, Jon is the lead singer of Switchfoot. He also put out a series of three CDs (so far) titled after seasons – Fall, Winter and Spring. These are the CDs that I have put off buying until just the other day.

With Rebekah’s vision impaired temporarily we decided we should buy some new music. So, I finally picked up this set of CDs. Wow. They are very “chill” and very good. I definitely go through fazes with my taste in music and these CDs hit me at just the right time. They are full of beautiful music and (at least for me) they make great background music for working at a coffeeshop.
So, they officially have my endorsement… which means you should go buy them and enjoy them now.

Yesterday was a good day. She worked all day and seemed to get along pretty well. She could see her computer screen and was not too light sensitive. Her eyes still got dry quickly and would occasionally hit her with sharp pains. But overall the day gave us hope for a happy outcome.
Rebekah had the protective contacts removed this morning. The doctor said her corneas were pretty much 75% healed. Her eyes immediately felt scratchy and dry. Her vision is more blurry now than it was with the contacts, but the doctor said this would get better quickly. In a way it feels like a step backward, but I know that her eyes need to heal on their own now and I am positive it is only a matter of time before she feels “normal” again.
Our make-shift window coverings are now mostly removed and she isn’t sporting those “cool” sunglasses nearly as much. Hopefully this morning was the last time she would ever have contacts in her eyes.

Well, it’s been three days since Rebekah had PRK surgery. Since the surgery she hasn’t been able to open her eyes for more than about 2 seconds. It’s not that they hurt too bad, she said that is was more like she had something in her eye and so it just forced her to keep it closed. I’ve been leading her around our apartment and trying to keep her from bumping into things (though she did happen to find the bathroom door with her forehead yesterday… I wasn’t leading that time so I take no blame).
This morning she woke up and opened her eyes without that sensation. She still can’t focus on anything when she opens them so she is keeping them shut most of the time. I’m sure the protective contact lenses in her eyes are to blame for the blurry vision (at least somewhat), so hopefully on Tuesday when those come out things will change dramatically.
She has been pretty light-sensative so we covered the windows with sheets, she has been covering her face with a washcloth any time the TV is on, and she hasn’t even seriously thought about going outside yet. Plus she gets to wear these hott shades.

The hardest part of this recovery so far has been the timeframe. We did not go into this thinking we were giving up our lives for the next four days (and counting), but that is exactly what has happened. She cannot work at all. I can work some, but honestly she is my priority and so I am limited in what I can really do. (I’m glad we both have jobs that can allow for this somewhat abrupt absence.) After the first couple of days being stuck in the house I think she is going a little stir crazy. She has been able to knit, amazingly. I mean, I can’t even knit with my eyes open and she made this wash cloth with her eyes shut. Amazing.

Anyway, I will keep everyone posted. Hopefully the recovery will move quicker from here. We are both definitely ready to get back to our normal life together.

This morning Rebekah had LASIK.

Actually she had PRK. It apparently hurts really bad… at least that’s what she tells me. I hope it’s all worth it.
EDIT: Why “Week of procedures?” Well, I had dental work done earlier this week. I know that two things probably doesn’t sound like much but it is for us.
